Essential Oils to Repel Bugs
My favorite oils to repel bugs are Peppermint and lemongrass.  I have made up a mister of peppermint, using 15 drops per ounce of water (use a dark-colored glass bottle).  Whenever I see ants in my kitchen I can just spray this and they skuttle away.  Another thing I have done is to apply peppermint to cotton balls and put it where they come in.  I have found mosquitoes really dislike lemongrass as do flies.  I made up a mister for this also.  (I buy my bottles from Sunburst Bottle company.  You can email me for info on them) Young Living makes a wonderul oil blend called Purification, that I use in a mister also for bugs and for cleaning and purifying the air..

Below are some testimonials from people on our chat list  and how they have used the oils to deal with bugs

Earlier this year I was bit by a spider of the nasty variety.  Made a knot as big
as two big fist under my left arm. Did not do so at first, so of course just
ignored it for 52 hours, then it made itself known, unfortunately it also made
red streaks going down my arm as well. And I was getting sick at my stomach and
passing out every time I stood up.  As I was fairly new to the oils, I did not
know which ones to use, but knew I was in a very bad way. I was taken to the
emergency room and given antibiotics (shot). But they said that the site would
get very big and black and rotten and would probably require surgery to repair.
So I got busy. I used lemon and thieves for the infection and melrose and
lavender for the healing.  And Pain away for the tremendous pain. It worked. No
surgery was required, and I only have a scar the size of  the end of a pen. I
might add that I was taking a lot of the supplements and doubled up on most of
them during this time.
Love these Oils.

Hi there,
I had a gorgeous umbrella plant , the large leaf type, which was attacked
by spider mites.  The poor plant struggled valiantly but was definitely
losing  the battle.  I had read a lot about oregano (especially impressive
was the report on the oregano killing the flu virus,) so I decided to try
oregano on my plant.  I mixed approximately 4 drops of oregano oil into a
spritzer bottle of water and shook it well.  Then I spritzed the plant at
least once a day, occasionally morning and evening.  I started this on
Jan19th. The foliage has now doubled and there is no sign of webs or dead
leaves.

Dear Frank,
Here's another "miracle" with the oils.  I had two 4 year old cats,
Spanky and Alfalfa, non-look-alike brothers who had been together and
constant companions to each other since birth.  One evening, in October as
I was taking out the garbage, Alfalfa, basically an indoor cat, shot out the
door. It became foggy, and I couldn't see to find him. I sent his more
independent brother but to look for him. Spanky came back, but not his
brother.  When the fog cleared the next morning, I discovered that, Alfie
had been hit by a car and died instantly. Spanky "moped" about the house all
that day.
The next day Spanky exhibited highly distressed behavior, jumping from
counter to counter and from window to window, looking out and cat calling
for his brother.
I'd heard Peace and Calming Oil helps with "hyperactive" children, so I
wondered if it would help a hyperactive and distressed cat.  I put n few
drops of the oil in my palm and gently, coaxed Spanky over to me.  I touched
the oil to his paws, then stroked behind his ears and down the back of his
spine.  He calmed down completely in less than five minutes.  For the next
two weeks, every time Spanky would start to get upset, I'd repeat that
procedure with Peace and Calming, and it would work to calm him every time.
Now he has adjusted to his loss and is back to normal.
Another past miracle involving Spanky: Last March he was bitten by
something under his chin (possibly flea or mosquito or some kind of insect)
and developed an allergic reaction.  0ver the next couple months, he lost
patches of fur an his tail and lower back.  His former full grey Angora coat
became sparse.  I put a few drops of Purification Oil in his cat box with
each change and also stroked his fur with a few drops of Lavender. 0ver the
next several weeks his fur returned to its former full and abundant state
The "Fat Cat" is back.
TODAY'S MIRACLE—This morning when I took a band aid off my arm, I
noticed a red streak about three inches long and growing up my forearm. From
past experience, I knew this was a sign of blood poisoning.  A time in the
past, I was bitten by a spider and had a red streak go all the way up my arm
and was a fraction of inch from my arm pit and poison going through my
system.  At the hospital, I was given eight (8) antibiotic pills and made to
wait in the waiting room a number of hours for observation  after the red
streak subsided.  This time, I merely washed the area, patted it dry, and
applied Melrose Oil directly on the streak and Abundance (Frankincense and
Myrrh) on the rest of that forearm.  I looked 15 - 10 minutes later and
found the streak had disappeared—and the arm is normal now. Thank GOD for
His oils and for giving us Gary Young and Gary's knowledge in distilling
them properly to provide such wonderful benefits.

Louise,
My daughter was bitten by something which we believe was a spider.  The
infection had a dark spot in the middle and grew red and swollen quickly
to the size of a lemon in diameter, at least.  I had her put
purification on it.  People were telling her she should see the doctor,
so she ended up going to the emergency room.  This was the night before
Thanksgiving day '99.  The E.R. doctor came in to see her and wrote out
a prescription for an antibiotic, gave her some samples, since the
pharmacy may be closed for holidays and after 2 minutes, she owed
approximately $150.
She decided to not take the antibiotic but felt good to have it just in
case.  She applied the purification one more time.  By the evening of
the next day it had gone down considerably.  In a couple of days it was
completely gone.
We don't know if it was a spider or if it was a brown recluse or not,
but we do know it looked pretty wicked and the purification drew the
poison out.  I have read that purification will draw out the poison of a
brown recluse spider bite.
Hope this helps.

Hi Annette,

You might try Dr.. Young's antibiotic formula.  It worked for a spider bite
I had, but my bite didn't react like yours.  I just got a red line going
from the bite toward my heart.  The red line was gone the day after I
applied the antibiotic formula and the bite healed in a few days.  Formula
follow:
10 drops Lemon Oil
8   drops Mountain Savory
3   drops Oregano

Combine in 1 Tablespoon of V-6 mixing oil (or extra virgin olive oil).
Apply around or on the infected area.  If the Oregano gets too warm apply
V-6 mixing oil to dilute and stop the heat.  It is my understanding that you
can encapsulate three to five drops of this antibiotic and take it orally.
I have not tried ingesting the formula but am sure it will work.  Just be
careful as more is not better.

Well, I don't have experience with the recluse spider bite on a dog. How about
experience with the bite on me?  I have had four this summer. (Three at once.) I
would think that the information would translate over to use on a dog. I can
give the best information on the latest one because I've made more notes.

I got the bite on my thigh Thursday, August 3rd. As soon as I knew I had the
bite, I started with Purification. I put that on several times during the day up
until bedtime. By evening the blister had risen to just short of an inch. (This
is not an exaggeration. It was incredible.) I put Purification on it the next
day.

The skin inside and immediately surrounding the puncture was black. Dead tissue.
There were hundreds of little blisters on the skin around the puncture,
extending out in a circle approximately three inches in diameter. The
surrounding tissue was red, hot, and hard. The wound itself was oozing a clear
liquid. (Not slowly—more like running. It would run down my leg, drip onto
whatever I was sitting on. A mess.)

By Friday I had started the "recipe" to use for open, infected wounds that is
found in the EODR (7 drops lemongrass, 5 drops peppermint, 10 drops Melaleuca (I
used Melrose), and 8 drops Bergamot). This I alternated with lavender and
sometimes Peppermint because of the dreadful itch.  The wound continued to drain
through Monday. I would cover it with a bandage when in bed; otherwise I left it
open to air out.

Now, two weeks later, the area still itches terribly, the skin is rough and
there is still a bit of scabbing. The blisters are gone. I am confident that
within a couple more weeks, there will be no sign of injury whatsoever. I still
put Melrose, lavender, and peppermint on it (not together) whenever I think
about it.

I consider myself very blessed to have the oils to use. I read horrible stories
on the internet about these bites and the pain and suffering that people go
through for long periods of time

(Boel, I can show you my bite tomorrow at the Portland workshop. If you have
time, take a look at some of the sites on the internet that show the damage that
recluse spider bites do.)

I hope the puppy soon feels much better.

Annette

Dear Lindy,

I knew someone with a brown recluse spider bite, within a few
days it had swollen, turned red and white in a target kind of
design, and was the size of a silver dollar.

I dropped 2 drops of Purification on it.  Two hours later, he
came by my office to show it to me.  The redness was now
a pale pink, the puffiness was gone, and it appeared to be
well on the way to healing.  He said the pain was gone, and
felt much better.  The size had shrunk to a quarter.

For good measure, I dropped a few more drops on it, and
it healed completely.  I'm not sure a poultice would be necessary.
